The deputies of the "New People" faction proposed to change the order of refund of tickets if flights are cancelled. Corresponding appeal with the initiative to introduce a simplified procedure is sent to the Ministry of Transport.
The document explains that passengers now have to decide on short notice whether to accept an alternative transport or demand a refund. The airline already has information about the cancellation of the flight, but in order to receive money, the passenger often needs to self-apply, fill out the appropriate forms and wait for a response.
Extra difficulties arise when buying tickets through intermediaries. In such cases, passengers have to find out where to send the money-back request: directly to the carrier or to the agency through which the trip was processed.
In connection with this, the deputies propose to introduce a mandatory electronic mechanism of refund when cancelling the flight. According to the text of the application, the passenger must be able to confirm the refusal of the proposed alternative transport in one action, without making a separate application and resubmission of documents.
According to the parliamentarians, the innovation will speed up the transfer of funds after the passenger confirms the cancellation of the flight and reduce the number of repeat applications. In addition, a common order should reduce the likelihood of disagreements between passengers, airlines and ticket agencies, as well as simplify refunds regardless of how a ticket is purchased.
