The issue of launching Russian "Mir" cards in Thailand remains on the agenda, despite the emergence of alternative methods of cashless payment for Russians. This was reported by the ambassador of the Russian Federation in the kingdom Yevgeny Tomikhin.
According to the diplomat, negotiations for the introduction of domestic plastic in the country were at an advanced stage even before the COVID-19 pandemic, but the project had to be postponed due to health restrictions. It is not being abandoned now.
So far, we’re not taking anything off the agenda. At least until we, together with the Thai side, decide that there are some new solutions to the payment problem,' said Yevgeny Tomikhin.
He also spoke about the current method of payment via QR codes. Russian tourists can be paid in this way with the help of MTS Bank, Sberbank and VTB applications. The amount is automatically converted and the write-off occurs in rubles.
