Abstract
The purpose of this article study was to clarify and formalize the provisions of the modern regional medical tourism concept in the context of ensuring the economic development of the healthcare industry in the Russian constituent entities (regions). To achieve the goal, the following tasks were set and solved: to investigate the state and characteristics of regional medical tourism at the present stage; to clarify the ontology and classification of regional medical tourism based on a historical approach and a literary review; to reveal the provisions of the regional medical tourism concept from the perspective of an institutional approach; to identify the functional features and tools of regional medical tourism in the economic development of the healthcare industry of the Russian regions; to determine the stages of development of regional medical tourism; to analyze the indicators of regional medical tourism using the example of the Volgograd region; to identify the main directions of procedures for unlocking the potential of the Volgograd region. The research object is the modern regional medical tourism concept in the context of ensuring the economic development of the healthcare industry in the Russian regions. The research subject includes economic relations, classifications, functions, tools, indicators that form the regional medical tourism concept aimed at ensuring the economic development of the healthcare sector of the Russian regions. Scientific results of the study include the following: the results of the analysis on the state and characteristics of regional medical tourism at the present stage have been obtained; the ontology and classification of regional medical tourism are clarified; the regional medical tourism concept is revealed in a new way from the perspective of an institutional approach; the functional features and tools of regional medical tourism in the economic development of the healthcare industry in the Russian regions are identified and generalized; the main stages of the regional medical tourism development are identified; the analysis of regional medical tourism indicators is carried out using the example of the Volgograd region; the main directions of procedures for unlocking the potential of the Volgograd region are highlighted.
