Tourists were warned about fake virtual cards of foreign banks in the Federation Council

The fraudsters began to use a new scheme to deceive Russians planning trips abroad. The intruders propose to issue virtual foreign bank cards ostensibly for payment of purchases and services in other countries, as well as foreign online services and international subscriptions. Senator Artem Sheikin warned about this.

According to him, such advertisements appear more frequently on dubious Internet resources. Users are promised a quick payment tool that allows for unlimited foreign billing. In fact, such proposals are merely a way to lure money and gain access to sensitive information.

As noted by the senator, those wishing to use such a service are offered to send a copy of their passport, provide bank details or pay in advance for the issuance of a virtual card. The fraudsters then either disappear with the funds received or use the information provided for their own purposes.

The parliamentarian emphasized that bank cards should be processed only through officially functioning financial organizations. Any middleman promising a quick solution to the problem of payment abroad should arouse suspicion.

Artem Sheikin also recommended not to trust proposals that guarantee easy circumvention of existing restrictions or require advance transfer of funds to an individual’s account. Such conditions, he says, are one of the hallmarks of fraudulent schemes.
